LP Leadership Dispute: Usman Challenges Abure’s Victory and Plans Appeal

Senator Nenadi Usman, the Chair of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, announced on Tuesday that her committee will appeal the Federal High Court’s decision in Abuja that upheld the leadership of Julius Abure.

In a statement she signed personally and shared with ABN TV, Usman revealed that she met with key party figures, including the 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha, to discuss the court ruling.

The former finance minister acknowledged that the judgment, which endorsed the Nnewi Convention of the party, predates the establishment of the Caretaker Committee. However, the leaders have decided to challenge this ruling.

Usman urged all party members to remain calm and committed to peaceful reconciliation efforts during this time.

“This evening, I met with Mr. Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha. We discussed today’s judgment.

“The case actually began before the Caretaker Committee was formed. However, after consulting, we have decided to join the case and proceed with an appeal against the

judgment.”
