Fubara Could Be Impeached Amid Political Crisis in Rivers__Cole

Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Rivers State governorship in 2023, has raised concerns about the potential for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s impeachment amidst increasing political instability.

Speaking on Thursday, Cole warned that recent developments could endanger Fubara’s position, particularly following a Court of Appeal ruling that upheld a Federal High Court decision invalidating the approval of Rivers State’s 2024 budget.

Cole noted that this ruling significantly impacts the state government and places Fubara in a “dangerous political situation.” He expressed his belief that these circumstances could adversely affect Fubara’s administration.

“The governor is in a very precarious position,” Cole stated, pointing out that the Assembly, led by Amaewhule, is now recognized as the legitimate body responsible for the budget.

He added, “Once this is established, Fubara will need to navigate potential impeachment proceedings. The political landscape is complicated, with the APC controlling the Assembly, the PDP holding the governorship, and the APP managing local government.”

Cole further lamented the stagnation of development in Rivers State, emphasizing that the ongoing political conflict is detrimental to the residents. “The people of Rivers are losing out in this political struggle,” he said, noting that their interests are being overlooked.

He concluded, “If the needs of the people were prioritized, we wouldn’t be in this situation. Currently, the ongoing political battles are leaving the average citizen worse off.”
