NASS Criticize Minister Umahi: “No Plans for Nigeria’s Roads!”

Members of the House of Representatives have criticized Minister of Works David Umahi for the worsening state of Nigeria’s road infrastructure.

During a recent hearing, lawmakers expressed their concerns about Umahi’s apparent lack of commitment to improving the nation’s roads. The ministry’s Director of Bridges, Bede Obiora, attributed the poor condition of roads to funding limitations, but Umahi was notably absent from the session.

Oseni, the representative for Ibarapa/Ido Federal Constituency in Oyo State, challenged the minister’s justification. He argued that the claim of insufficient resources does not hold up, especially given the ministry’s continued awarding of new road contracts.

“We’re not here to hear excuses about resource limitations,” he stated. “If you truly allocated your resources effectively, we wouldn’t be facing this crisis. The focus on low-priority projects shows a lack of genuine concern for our infrastructure.”

Oseni went on to emphasize that with the N300 billion supplementary budget approved last year, the Ministry should have been more proactive in addressing the existing road issues. He expressed frustration at what he sees as a failure to deliver on promises, saying, “Your actions indicate you have no plan for our nation’s roads. It’s alarming that there seems to be no strategic approach to the issues at hand.”
