Addressing Nigeria’s Power and Energy Crisis: A Manageable Challenge

Peter Obi

The persistent ent power outages affecting various regions of Nigeria, particularly in the Northern, Eastern, and South-South states, remain a significant concern. It’s disheartening to witness these areas experiencing prolonged blackouts, with some regions left without electricity for days.

The impact of these outages on businesses, especially small enterprises that rely on public power supply for their operations, is profound. Coupled with rising petroleum costs and an unfavorable business environment, this power crisis poses a serious threat to livelihoods, leading to increased poverty and business failures.

I firmly believe that resolving Nigeria’s power and energy challenges is not an insurmountable task. Many nations similar to ours have proven that it is entirely feasible to provide reliable and sustainable energy for their citizens.

Take Egypt, for instance. The country made substantial investments in its power sector, leading to the development of a robust infrastructure with numerous power stations. As a result, Egypt has transformed its energy landscape, supplying reliable power to millions of small businesses that represent over 90% of its active enterprises and contribute more than 80% to its GDP.

My thoughts are with those who are struggling during these challenging times in our country.

I urge the government to intensify efforts to implement both immediate and long-term solutions to this ongoing crisis.

With a reliable power supply, a better Nigeria is within reach.
