Two Teenagers Arrested in Adamawa After Being On Police Watchlist for Criminal Activities

Two teenage boys, both 18 years old, have been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command after being on the force’s wanted list for their involvement in various criminal activities.

The arrest, confirmed by the police on Tuesday, involved the capture of two notorious members of a local criminal group known as the “Shila Boys.” These individuals have gained a reputation in the state for engaging in phone thefts and other criminal acts.

In a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command detailed how the suspects, Bagir Magaji Muhammad from Layin Chinko and Zaradeen Hadi from Sohon Kasuwa, both in Yola North Local Government Area, were apprehended.

According to the statement, the suspects were involved in a robbery on Monday, November 4, 2024, during which they used offensive weapons to steal a mobile phone from a woman named Habiba Umar. After the crime was reported, police swiftly traced the suspects to their hideout.

“Upon investigation, officers from the anti-narcotics unit were able to recover the stolen phone, along with a sharp knife and a horn,” the statement added.

While this specific crime led to their arrest, the police emphasized that their notoriety stemmed from a series of similar robberies in the past. The Shila Boys, known for snatching phones and valuables during the day and night, have become a serious concern in major towns like Yola and other parts of Adamawa State.
