BREAKING: Nigerian Senate Removes Danladi Umar as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal

Senate

In a significant move, the Nigerian Senate has dismissed Yakubu Danladi Umar from his position as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), citing allegations of serious misconduct. This action was taken in accordance with Section 157(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

The Senate condemned Umar’s conduct as incompatible with the responsibilities of his office, with members concluding that his actions had reached a level of gross misconduct that could no longer be overlooked. The resolution to remove Umar was passed with overwhelming support, as 74 Senators signed the motion and 10 were present, making a total of 84.

The decision followed a closed-door session held earlier on Wednesday, where the Senate deliberated on the issue. Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele introduced the motion, referencing Section 157(1) of the Constitution and citing multiple petitions filed against Umar. The motion was discussed during a plenary session led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the proceedings.
