See How Pregnant Woman was Hospitalized After EFCC Raids Wrong House in Abia

A pregnant woman, eight months into her pregnancy, was hospitalized after officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) mistakenly raided her home in Umuahia, Abia State, in the early hours of December 6. The woman, identified as the wife of businessman Mr. Ugochukwu Ezeanyagu, was traumatized by the raid, which occurred at around 2 a.m.

Ezeanyagu told ABN TV that the EFCC agents, some of whom were masked and armed, forcibly broke down the gates and doors of their home, entering their bedroom without explanation or identification. He described the officers as acting aggressively, forcing both him and his heavily pregnant wife to lie face down as though they were criminals.
During the raid, the officials seized several electronic devices, including phones, presumably to search for any evidence of illicit activities. However, after finding no incriminating material, the EFCC agents reportedly apologized for the damage and left.
“The most painful part is that my wife is over eight months pregnant. They put her into a state of crisis with all the shock and trauma,” Ezeanyagu said.
As of the time of reporting, no formal complaint had been filed with the police. Efforts to contact Mr. Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media & Publicity, for a statement went unanswered.
This incident follows a similar one three years ago, when EFCC operatives mistakenly raided the home of Abia journalist Norah Okafor, disconnecting her fencing system and searching her home for evidence they later realized they were not authorized to seek.
