Reasons Biden Believes He Could Have Defeated Trump in 2024 Election

Reasons Biden Believes He Could Have Defeated Trump in 2024 Election

President Joe Biden has expressed the belief that he could have won against Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election if he had remained in the race, according to reports.

Biden, who is set to hand over the presidency to Trump next month, had initially withdrawn from the race in July due to declining poll numbers and a poorly received performance during a televised debate with his Republican rival. In his place, Kamala Harris became the Democratic nominee, but she ultimately lost to Trump in November’s election.

Recent reports from The Washington Post reveal that Biden, along with some of his aides, now feels that he could have triumphed over Trump had he stayed in the race. According to sources familiar with their private discussions, Biden and his team believe that he would have been able to defeat Trump, despite the challenges faced during his campaign.

Biden previously defeated Trump in the 2020 election, securing his first term in office with a record number of votes. This victory prevented Trump from securing a second term, but speculation over whether Biden would run again in 2024 or choose a one-term presidency lingered throughout his first term.

In April of the previous year, Biden confirmed that he would seek re-election, arguing that he had beaten Trump once and could do so again, despite concerns about his age. However, Biden’s campaign was marred by several public missteps, including gaffes like misidentifying Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and mistakenly claiming he had met the late French President François Mitterrand at a 2021 summit.

The final blow to Biden’s campaign came during a disastrous debate performance against Trump, which Democrats described as a “meltdown” and a “slow-motion car crash.” Just days later, Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, as his successor.

Despite his efforts, Harris lost to Trump, who clinched victory in key battleground states and secured the popular vote. As a result, Trump will assume office again on January 20.
