Why Lamido Accuses Tinubu of Hiding the Truth About Nigeria’s Situation

Why Lamido Accuses Tinubu of Hiding the Truth About Nigeria’s Situation

Alhaji Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allegedly failing to provide Nigerians with an honest account of the country’s challenges under his leadership. Lamido, a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also took aim at former President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing him of lacking transparency during his tenure.

Speaking on the BBC Hausa program Gane Mini Hanya, Lamido claimed that both the Buhari and Tinubu administrations have prioritized propaganda over providing the public with a clear and truthful understanding of the nation’s state. He contrasted this with the period when the PDP was in power, which he described as a time of greater transparency and openness.

“In the past, under the PDP government, everything was clear and transparent to Nigerians,” Lamido said. “But since Buhari came into power, deception and propaganda have become the government’s preferred approach.”

The former governor also expressed concern over President Tinubu’s requests for loans, questioning the government’s financial decisions. He noted the discrepancy between the administration’s claims and its actions, citing last year’s budget figures. “How can the government budget N30 trillion, generate N50 trillion, and still ask for loans while claiming to have a surplus of N20 trillion?” he said.

Lamido condemned what he described as reckless financial management, calling it “selfishness” that is unprecedented elsewhere. He also criticized the support some Nigerians continue to offer the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), despite widespread discontent on social media. “You can see how the APC is being ridiculed and referred to as a disaster, yet some still defend it,” Lamido added.
