Toke Makinwa Challenges Misconceptions About Singlehood: “Not All Singles Are Lonely

Media personality and entrepreneur, Toke Makinwa, has spoken out against the widespread belief that all single people are lonely or unhappy. Responding to a mistaken assumption that her recent Thanksgiving celebration was an engagement party, Makinwa took to social media platform X to share her perspective on singlehood.

She emphasized that fulfillment and happiness can be found outside of romantic relationships, debunking the idea that being single automatically equates to loneliness.

“It’s surprising how many people think that every single person is lonely,” Makinwa wrote. “You’d be shocked at how content and fulfilled many single people are. While being in a relationship can be wonderful, if you don’t have your own purpose, you can still feel lonely even with someone by your side.”

She urged a change in mindset, stressing that personal growth and happiness should take priority over societal pressure to couple up. As the new year approaches, Makinwa encouraged people to leave behind the stereotype that single individuals are sad or miserable.

“Let’s stop assuming that single people are unhappy. Many are in unhealthy relationships and secretly wish for the peace of being alone. Let people be,” she concluded.
