2025: Governor Fubara Confident God Will Defeat Rivers’ Enemies

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed strong confidence in God’s ability to defeat the enemies of the state and its people. Fubara made this statement during the New Year’s Eve service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Opobo Town, located in the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, on the night of December 31st, 2024.

During the service, the governor led the congregation in a song of victory, with the faithful joining in the chorus: “At the mention of Your name, every knee shall bow; at the mention of Your name, every tongue confesses. You are Lord, You are King, You are the King of kings.”

Fubara noted that the lyrics of the song were not just comforting but a call to action for the people to deepen their trust in God, who alone has the power to guide them to greater successes in the coming year. He added, “The Red Biro is still in my hand. Every plot against us will continue to fail,” and extended his wishes for a prosperous New Year.

Dr. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Niger Delta, who led the service, reflected on the difficulties of 2024, which included conspiracies, attacks, economic hardship, and health challenges. Despite these trials, he emphasized that the faithful had not been defeated. He encouraged the congregation to be thankful for God’s blessings and assured them that in the New Year, God would continue to support and deliver them, ensuring victory in all their endeavors.

Bishop Oko-Jaja also prayed for peace, unity, and rapid development for the state, aligning with the objectives of the Rivers State government’s 2025 budget, which focuses on inclusive growth and progress.

The service included vibrant praise and worship, as well as a choir performance, culminating in the midnight celebration of 2025 with joyful “Happy New Year” shouts.

Attendees at the service included the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Oko-Jumbo; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Edison Ehie; several members of the National Assembly, including Awaji-Inombek Abiante, Boma Goodhead, Anderson Igbiks, and the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Jaja. Other notable figures present were Senator Adawari Pepple, former Inspector-General of Police Mike Okiro, Theodore Georgewill, Dr. Tamunosis Gogo-Jaja, members of the State Executive Council, Local Government Council chairpersons, elders, political leaders, and other key stakeholders in the state.
