Tinubu Sends Palliative Relief to SUG Presidents Nationwide in Historic Move

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has distributed palliative aid to the Presidents of Student Union Governments (SUG) from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, according to News360 Nigeria.

The distribution, which included bags of rice, was organized by the Office of the Special Adviser on Students Engagement, Asefon Sunday, and took place in Abuja on Tuesday.

Asefon emphasized that the initiative highlights President Tinubu’s dedication to supporting students and strengthening relations with the academic community. “Today, the SUG Presidents from across the country are receiving rice from President Tinubu, a leader who recognizes the vital role of students not just as future leaders, but as leaders of today,” he said.

He explained that although the rice shipment had arrived late in December 2023, the decision was made to personally distribute the aid to the student leaders in Abuja. Two representatives from each region were selected to manage the distribution process.

Asefon also noted that this is the first time in Nigerian history that a sitting president has reached out to student leaders in December, calling it a significant milestone.

Looking ahead, Asefon assured that 2024 would bring more benefits for students through the Presidential initiative. “This is a moment for students and youth across the country to engage with the government, and they will feel its impact even more in the coming year,” he added.

One of the student representatives, Fahad Abdullahi, the SUG President of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, expressed gratitude for the gesture. “We were informed that all SUG Presidents from across the country would receive rice as a gesture from the President. We sincerely appreciate this and commend the initiative, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the Rice Initiative. We are eager to see more in the future,” he said.
