Fire Tragedy Claims Life of Girl, Damages Property in Kano

A devastating fire occurred in the Ja’en Sabere area of Gwale Local Government in Kano, northern Nigeria, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old girl and significant damage to the property.
The house’s owner, Saminu Abba, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, explaining that the fire began around 1:00 AM and quickly spread through parts of the house. He said that upon hearing loud noises and cries for help, he and his family woke up to find the fire blocking their exit and growing uncontrollably.
“We were fast asleep when we heard loud sounds and people shouting in the neighborhood. Upon waking up, we realized that the fire had already started in some parts of our house and was blocking the way out,” Saminu recalled.
He went on to say that after the local fire service, vigilantes, and other community members arrived, they managed to break into a neighboring house, allowing six people to escape. However, tragically, the family’s 18-year-old daughter, who suffered from sickle cell disease, lost her life in the fire.
Saminu also revealed that much of the family’s clothing and belongings were completely destroyed. He has called on the authorities to provide support to help them recover from the tragedy.
FIRST CLASS GISTS reached out to the Kano State Fire Service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, who was unavailable for comment due to being on an official trip. He, however, promised to provide more details later.
