Boko Haram Leaders Arrested in Ilesa: Terror Plot Uncovered in Osun State

DSS
The Directorate of State Security Services (DSS) has recently apprehended key Boko Haram leaders in Osun State following a court order. These individuals, suspected to be affiliated with Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), had reportedly planned to stage attacks in the South West region, using Osun as a strategic base.
Reliable sources indicate that two of the detainees received specialized training in Algeria and Somalia. Their mission was to establish a network and recruit for future attacks in the region. While commending the DSS for its vigilant approach under new leadership, sources warned that there could still be dormant terrorist cells operating in the South West.
The Federal High Court in Abuja authorized the continued detention of the suspects for an additional 60 days as investigations unfold. The detained individuals are identified as Adamu Abubakar (also known as Abu Aisha), Babagana Bashuli, Muhammed Adam, Mustapha Abacha, Katuru Muhammed, Babakura Mallam Abacha, Muhammed Ciroma, Ali Gambo, Muhammed Umoru, and Muhammed Bundi. Among them, two are foreign nationals, while the others come from Borno, Yobe, and Bauchi states.
The DSS apprehended the suspects on December 16, 2024, in the Ilesa East Local Government Area. The agency informed the court that these individuals fled Sambisa Forest due to ongoing military operations targeting terrorist groups. Justice Emeka Nwite, who heard the case, has scheduled the next hearing for March 3, 2025.
Additionally, the DSS arrested two more suspects on December 19, 2024, in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area. These individuals are connected to a Moroccan terrorist currently held by Spanish authorities.
