Bering Air Flight, Carrying 10 People Vanishes in Alaska, Search Efforts Underway

A Bering Air plane with 10 people on board has gone missing while flying over Alaska, sparking a widespread search operation.
The aircraft, which had taken off from Unalakleet, was expected to reach Nome around 4 p.m. local time but failed to arrive, raising concerns.
The flight was carrying nine passengers and one pilot. The Nome Volunteer Fire Department confirmed the search is in progress, although challenging weather conditions have made aerial operations difficult.
“The weather and visibility are currently hindering our ability to conduct an air search,” the department stated. “We are continuing with a ground search from Nome and White Mountain, and the National Guard, Coast Guard, and Troopers are all part of the efforts.”
The last communication with the pilot occurred when he notified Anchorage Air Traffic Control that he was waiting to enter a holding pattern as Nome’s runway was being cleared.
Authorities have advised the public against initiating independent search attempts due to the dangerous conditions. The Nome Volunteer Fire Department has also encouraged families to reach out to Norton Sound Health Corporation for support.
As the search continues, efforts are focused on pinpointing the plane’s last known coordinates. The whereabouts and safety of the passengers and crew are still unknown.
