Group Accuses Gov. Fubara of Paying N4.8bn Monthly to Rep Member Ugochinyere

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has been accused of channeling N4.8 billion every month to Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives from Imo State’s Ideato North Federal Constituency, in exchange for political support.
This claim was made by the One Nigeria Movement (ONM) in a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, where the group expressed concern over the misuse of state funds meant for development to benefit one individual. The ONM stated that the situation had reached a point where they could no longer stay silent.
In the statement, signed by the Convener General, Ahmed Sodiq-Mugoro, and Secretary, Babatunde Aliyu, ONM urged the people of Rivers State to hold Governor Fubara accountable for what they described as the ongoing looting disguised as a political strategy amid the state’s crisis.
The group alleged that each of the 23 local government chairpersons in Rivers State is required to contribute N100 million monthly to a “Political Development Fund,” with Governor Fubara adding N2.5 billion, bringing the total to N4.8 billion. This amount is reportedly being funneled to the Action Peoples Party (APP), under which the current local government officials were elected in the controversial local elections.
It is further alleged that Ugochinyere, as a representative of the APP, receives this N4.8 billion on a monthly basis for his party’s benefit. The ONM has now called on the people of Rivers State to demand answers from Ugochinyere regarding what he has contributed to the state to justify the substantial sum he reportedly receives each month.
