Nasarawa Farmer Laments After Cassava Farm is Destroyed by Suspected Herdsmen
Idris Salisu Danwanzan, a young farmer in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has voiced deep frustration following the destruction of his cassava farm, allegedly by herders. Danwanzan shared his ordeal on Facebook, revealing that he had not been to the farm in over a month and was heartbroken to return and find it severely damaged.
“You wouldn’t believe this is my cassava farm. I hadn’t been here for a month, and this is what I came back to,” he wrote in his post. “I can’t even begin to calculate the amount I’ve invested. May God judge those responsible.”
While the full extent of the damage is yet to be officially determined, Danwanzan emphasized the considerable resources—both financial and physical—he had put into the farm’s development.
This event highlights the ongoing conflict between farmers and pastoralists in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where disputes over land use and grazing routes frequently escalate into violence.
In a related development, violence erupted in Akpam Village 2, Karu LGA of Nasarawa State, where two young men were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen. The victims, aged 23 and 24, had allegedly tried to stop herders from letting their cattle graze on mango trees near their residence. The situation reportedly escalated into a deadly knife attack.
