Niger Police Recover Bodies of Priest and Hospital Worker After Vehicle Plunges Into Flooded Stream
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of the bodies of Reverend Father James Omeh, the Parish Priest of Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Gulu, and Charity John, an employee of Divine Mercy Hospital in Dutsen Kura, following a tragic accident.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on May 24, 2025. The victims were traveling in a white Hilux vehicle toward Gulu via Lapai when, due to poor visibility and heavy rain, they veered off course and accidentally drove into a flooded stream.
Authorities were alerted to the incident the following morning, May 25, at approximately 11:30 a.m., prompting a swift response. With the help of local divers, both bodies were recovered and handed over to Father Paul Moroa, the Parish Priest of Lapai, to conduct appropriate Christian burial rites.
The vehicle was also retrieved from the water and transported to a nearby police station for further investigation.
