Ghanaian Female Student Tragically Found Deceased in Manhole Following Visit to Boyfriend

According to local police reports, the young woman had gone to see her boyfriend over the weekend but failed to return to her hostel, prompting friends and relatives to raise concerns. A missing person’s report was filed, and a search was launched by the authorities in collaboration with local residents.

After several days of intensive searching, her lifeless body was discovered inside a manhole near a residential area. Emergency services retrieved the body, and preliminary investigations suggest that she may have accidentally fallen into the uncovered manhole during the night. However, foul play has not been ruled out, and the police say a full autopsy and investigation are underway to determine the exact cause of death.

The incident has sparked renewed public outcry over the state of public infrastructure in urban areas, particularly the hazards posed by open manholes and poor lighting in some neighborhoods. Residents have long complained about the dangers posed by these unguarded utility openings, which are often left uncovered for extended periods.

“This is not just a tragic accident; it’s a failure of responsibility. How many more lives must be lost before action is taken?” said a local resident during a vigil held in the victim’s memory.

The university community where the student was enrolled has expressed deep sorrow over the loss. In a statement released on Monday, school officials extended their condolences to the bereaved family and urged students to remain cautious when moving around the city, especially at night.

Authorities have promised a thorough investigation and are working with the city’s municipal agency to inspect and secure all open manholes in the area to prevent similar tragedies.

As the investigation continues, the family and friends of the deceased are left to mourn a young life cut short under distressing circumsta

nces.
