Obi, in a statement released on Tuesday, expressed deep disappointment over the incident, which saw structures linked to his brother’s legitimate business operations razed by state authorities under what he described as questionable circumstances. He emphasized that the business, which had been operating legally for years, was not given adequate notice or the opportunity to seek legal redress before the demolition was carried out.
“This is not just about my family,” Obi said. “This is about the countless small and medium-sized business owners who suffer similar fates in silence. We cannot claim to support entrepreneurship and private investment while at the same time destroying the very foundations that sustain them.”
The former Anambra State governor urged the Lagos State Government to ensure fairness, transparency, and due process in all actions affecting residents and businesses. He called for an independent investigation into the circumstances that led to the demolition, adding that justice must be served to prevent a repeat of such incidents.
Obi also highlighted the broader economic implications of such actions, warning that arbitrary demolitions discourage both local and foreign investment. “We are in a time when our economy needs all the help it can get. Businesses should be encouraged, not frustrated,” he stated.
While the Lagos State Government has yet to release an official statement regarding the demolition, Obi’s remarks have sparked a wider conversation on property rights, urban regulation, and the treatment of entrepreneurs in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
The incident has also drawn mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and greater respect for legal procedures in government actions.
Peter Obi reiterated his commitment to advocating for justice, fairness, and the protection of legitimate businesses across Nigeria, regardless of political affiliations or personal i
