Nigeria and Niger Troops Successfully Repel ISWAP Attack on Mallamfatori, Inflicting Casualties on Terrorists
In a joint operation, the Nigerian Armed Forces under Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Nigerien Defence Force, have successfully repelled an attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Mallamfatori, a strategically significant border town in Borno State.
According to reports from Zagazola Makama, the assault occurred in the early hours of Thursday, around 2:30 a.m. The combined ground troops responded swiftly, supported by aerial bombardment from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, alongside crucial surveillance and reconnaissance assistance provided by the Nigerien Air Force.
The coordinated response inflicted substantial casualties on the terrorists, compelling them to retreat into the surrounding bushland. The intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities deployed by the Nigerien Defence Force proved pivotal in directing the troops’ precise and effective counter-attack.
Mallamfatori, situated near the Lake Chad Basin, remains a vital security point in ongoing counter-insurgency operations across Nigeria’s North-East and the greater Lake Chad region.
Further updates on the operation are anticipated as mop-up and stabilization activities continue in the area.
