How I Was Appointed Chairman of the Tin Can Task Force

Published by on July 7th, 2025.

For those unfamiliar, the Tin Can Island Port is one of the busiest gateways in West Africa. Managing the flow of goods, addressing operational challenges, and ensuring order in such a high-traffic environment requires coordination, vision, and an unshakable commitment to duty. Over the years, I had worked in various roles at the port—some visible, others behind the scenes—but all critical to maintaining the smooth operation of our complex system.

What set my journey apart wasn’t loud accolades or grand announcements, but a steady reputation for problem-solving and collaboration. I made it a point to listen more than I spoke, to understand the unique challenges faced by both stakeholders and operatives. When tensions arose, I became a bridge. When inefficiencies emerged, I worked with my team to find sustainable solutions.

It was during one of those periods of uncertainty—when operations were under intense scrutiny and a new direction was needed—that I was approached. The leadership saw not only my work ethic, but also the respect I had earned from others in the system. After consultations and careful consideration, I was officially appointed Chairman of the Tin Can Task Force.

I accepted the role with humility, fully aware of the responsibilities it carried. This was not just a title—it was a call to action. The trust placed in me meant I had to step up, bring people together, and continue building a port system that could serve the nation more efficiently.

Since then, I’ve worked alongside an incredible team committed to reform, transparency, and progress. Every day brings new challenges, but with collaboration, courage, and commitment, we continue to make strides.

Looking back, my story is a reminder that leadership is not always sought—it is often earned. And when the moment arrives, it’s the sum of your daily actions that speak the l

oudest.
