Man Arrested After Killing Girlfriend in Lagos Hotel
A man named Amos Daniel has been taken into custody after being accused of murdering a woman believed to be his girlfriend at a hotel in the Ayobo district of Lagos State.
According to reports obtained by PUNCH Metro, the tragic event happened on Thursday evening.
Sources revealed that Daniel arrived at the hotel around 5 p.m. accompanied by some friends, with a woman joining them later. Around 10 p.m., unusual noises coming from their room caught the attention of other hotel guests.
One witness, who gave his name as Adio, told our reporter on Saturday that hotel security was promptly alerted. Upon gaining entry to the room, they found the woman lifeless.
“I checked in the day before, and that night I started hearing strange sounds coming from the adjacent room,” Adio said. “Curious, I stepped outside and saw that another guest had already informed security. When they knocked and got no response, they used a spare key to open the door and discovered the woman lying in a pool of blood.”
The hotel staff quickly raised the alarm following the grim discovery, triggering a search for the other occupants, who had reportedly fled.
An anonymous hotel employee, who was not authorized to speak to the press, disclosed that Daniel was eventually found hiding within the hotel premises. “We noticed two guests had left before the body was found, so we suspected the third might still be around. While searching, we spotted him trying to escape through the gate, and he was apprehended,” the employee explained.
Reports said Daniel was beaten by bystanders before the police arrived. During the commotion, he allegedly confessed to conspiring with his friends to kill the woman for ritualistic reasons.
Further investigation identified the deceased as Endurance, a native of Akwa Ibom State.
When reached for comment on Sunday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident. He stated the case was reported at the Ayobo Police Station on Friday by the hotel manager.
Hundeyin detailed, “The hotel manager reported that Amos Daniel, who booked a room and checked in with friends around 5 p.m. on Thursday, was involved in a disturbing incident. Around 8 p.m., while the manager was operating the hotel generator, he heard unusual sounds from Daniel’s room. Upon investigation, he discovered a woman’s lifeless body with multiple stab wounds inflicted by a sharp instrument.”
He added that Daniel and his accomplices initially fled the scene, but the manager managed to capture Daniel, during which a dagger suspected to be the murder weapon fell from him.
A team of detectives visited the site promptly, documenting the scene with photographs.
Preliminary findings revealed the victim suffered stab wounds to the stomach, left side of the head, and ribs.
“In addition, various weapons and items were seized from Daniel’s residence, including an axe, cutlass, machete, jack knives, scissors, and other objects,” the police spokesman said.
The body was transported to Mainland General Hospital mortuary in Yaba for autopsy and preservation. The case, along with exhibits and the suspect, has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for further discreet investigations.
In a related report from February, the Lagos State Police Command arrested 23-year-old Gbolahan Adebayo after he allegedly fatally assaulted his girlfriend in Ijedodo, Alimosho Local Government Area. Witnesses recalled hearing the victim’s cries for help before she was found unresponsive the following morning.
