Babatunde Fashola Appointed To RTSL Nigeria Board of Directors
Former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors at Resolve to Save Lives Nigeria (RTSL Nigeria), an international health organization focused on preventing cardiovascular disease and controlling epidemics.
The announcement was made on Friday by RTSL Nigeria, which has been actively working with communities and governments since establishing its Abuja office in 2022 to combat major global health threats.
Welcoming Fashola to the board, Dr. Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment:
“We’re delighted to have Mr. Fashola join the RTSL Nigeria board. His long-standing dedication to improving public welfare in Nigeria aligns with our mission to save lives and prevent disease.”
Fashola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has a notable record in public service. He previously held the position of Minister of Power, Works, and Housing under President Muhammadu Buhari and was Governor of Lagos State from 2007 to 2015. Before his governorship, he served as Chief of Staff in Lagos.
His role during Nigeria’s response to the 2014 Ebola outbreak was widely acknowledged, earning him the prestigious Stephen J. Solarz Award from the International Crisis Group.
In response to his appointment, Fashola said he was honored to contribute to the organization’s vision.
“I’m eager to support the important work of reducing preventable deaths caused by heart disease and infectious disease outbreaks,” he stated.
Professor Ibrahim Abubakar, Dean of the Faculty of Population Health Sciences at University College London and fellow RTSL Nigeria board member, described Fashola’s addition as a strategic boost, noting his leadership experience and effective crisis man agement skills.
