183 Suspected Internet Scammers Caught in Warri During Army Raid
Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade, under Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force for Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), have apprehended 183 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud during a targeted operation in Warri, Delta State.
The raid, which took place on July 19, 2025, was prompted by intelligence reports pointing to illegal cybercrime activities at a so-called internet fraud training hub. According to a statement by Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 63 Brigade in Asaba, the suspects—all males aged between 16 and 29—were arrested from residential buildings believed to be used as makeshift cybercrime schools.
Troops recovered a significant cache of electronic devices during the operation, including 274 laptops, 87 mobile phones, nine laptop chargers, a landline phone, and two Wi-Fi routers.
The statement confirmed that both the suspects and the confiscated items are undergoing preliminary investigations. The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime and ensuring public safety.
Brigadier General MA Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade and Sector 1 OPDS, praised the personnel involved for their precision and dedication. He also called on members of the public to continue supporting the military in its ongoing mission to secure the region and eliminate criminal elements.
