Edo APC Chairman Jarret Tenebe Says He Hate Peter Obi
Jarret Tenebe, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, has sparked debate after openly expressing his intense dislike for Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party. Tenebe insists that he is entitled to his feelings and is unapologetic about his stance.
According to Tribune Online, during a political rally last Friday, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo emphasized that Peter Obi must obtain permission from him prior to visiting the state.
At a weekend press briefing, Tenebe backed the governor’s directive, revealing that Obi is widely disliked across Edo, including by himself. He stated, “The governor’s instruction makes sense given the strong aversion many in Edo State, myself included, have toward Peter Obi. When you consider that his visit previously led to unrest and casualties, it’s reasonable to require Obi to seek clearance before entering the state so that those opposed to him can be managed.”
Tenebe reaffirmed these views during a live interview on TVC, emphasizing that his feelings are clear and genuine.
He explained, “The opposite of love is hate. If I don’t love someone, I hate them. I have no reason to hide my emotions — I simply don’t like Peter Obi, and I stand by that. If I don’t like a person, I hate them.”
When the interviewer suggested that ‘dislike’ might be a softer, more appropriate term, Tenebe disagreed, describing himself as an extremist who does not occupy a neutral middle ground.
“No, there is no middle for me. I am an extremist — I either love or hate. In this case, I hate Peter Obi, and I have every right to hold that view,” he insisted.
He also pointed out that his freedom of expression is safeguarded by Nigeria’s constitution.
“Nigerian law explicitly protects my right to express how I feel about anyone. There is no clause forbidding me from hating someone. So, I can freely decide whether to love or hate a person,” Tenebe added.
