APC Has Deepened Poverty Like No Government Before – Labour Party
Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government of plunging Nigerians into unprecedented hardship, stating that no administration in the country’s history has inflicted as much economic pain on the population.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna over the weekend, Senator Usman emphasized the LP’s commitment to reversing what she described as the “serious blunders and governance failures” of the current administration. She urged Nigerians not to lose hope, stressing that the Labour Party stands as a true alternative built on people-focused values and the vision of a better, fairer Nigeria.
According to the LP leader, the extent of poverty, inflation, and public suffering under the APC has reached levels that can no longer be tolerated. “This government has done more to impoverish Nigerians than any in our history,” she said.
Commenting on the recent wave of defections to the ruling party — including some from within the Labour Party — Senator Usman expressed disappointment, calling such political moves ethically wrong and a betrayal of public trust. “It is unacceptable to win elections under one party’s platform and then immediately cross over to another. It’s not just questionable legally, but it is morally dishonest,” she remarked.
Despite the defections, she reassured supporters that the LP remains resilient and focused. “Our strength comes not from political opportunists, but from the everyday Nigerians who believe in our cause,” she added.
Senator Usman acknowledged that the party had made some misjudgments in its previous candidate selections, admitting that a few individuals did not truly embody the LP’s values. However, she was quick to assure that such lessons have been learned and necessary changes will be made ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Those who left us were never truly committed to the vision of a new Nigeria. Their departure has only served to purify and strengthen our mission,” she said.
As the party prepares for a fresh round of membership revalidation, congresses, and its upcoming national convention — all recently approved by the National Executive Council — Senator Usman called on members to put internal disputes behind them and unite for the greater goal of national transformation.
