Rising Ethnic Tensions in Nigeria Spark Concern – Igbokwe, Showunmi Warn
Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has voiced serious concern over the rising tide of ethnic hostility in the country. In a message shared via his Facebook page on Wednesday, Igbokwe warned that the nation is drifting dangerously due to growing ethnic divides that many citizens seem unaware of.

“Ethnic intolerance is spreading like wildfire, and unfortunately, we remain blind to the looming threat,” Igbokwe wrote. “May we gain the clarity to see what’s unfolding before it’s too late.”
Echoing these sentiments, Segun Showunmi, former spokesperson to Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 presidential race, described ethnic bigotry as a time bomb waiting to explode. He criticized the lack of proactive leadership, warning that ignoring these divisions could lead to serious consequences.
“I’ve raised my voice about this repeatedly,” Showunmi noted. “This growing madness is unsustainable, yet those in authority appear indifferent. One can only hope a plan exists to manage the fallout if the situation spirals out of control. It’s baffling how we continue to overlook such an obvious danger.”
