See Reasons Lagos Government Shuts Down Clubhouse
By Ayinde Adeleke
The Lagos State Government has sealed a well-known nightclub for repeatedly flouting traffic rules and compromising public safety in its surrounding area. The enforcement action was carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) after numerous warnings issued to the establishment went unheeded.
Speaking on the development, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, stated that the club’s operations had consistently caused severe traffic disruptions, especially during weekends and rush hours. The primary concern, he explained, was the frequent obstruction of public roads by vehicles belonging to customers, which led to significant congestion and occasionally blocked access for emergency services.
Mr. Bakare-Oki further disclosed that the government had earlier cautioned several entertainment venues and event centres across Lagos, advising them to provide sufficient parking and work in collaboration with LASTMA or employ trained traffic personnel to manage large gatherings.
He stressed that the clampdown is not an attack on nightlife or legitimate businesses, but a necessary step to ensure public roads remain accessible and safe for all road users.
The closure marks a renewed push by the Lagos State Government to uphold traffic regulations and preserve order in the city’s busy urban spaces. Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to continuous oversight of recreational and event venues to guarantee adherence to traffic and safety
standards.
