Nigerian National Caught with Illicit Drugs During Attempted Delivery in Mokopane
A coordinated effort between the Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics Team and Reflex Security led to the arrest of a 42-year-old Nigerian man in Mokopane, Limpopo, on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, for alleged drug possession and trafficking.
Around 11:45 AM, authorities received a tip-off about an individual suspected of delivering illegal substances in the Mokopane area. Acting swiftly, officers began monitoring the identified route. While patrolling along Dudu Madisha Street, they spotted a man matching the description.
Upon seeing law enforcement, the suspect attempted to flee on foot into nearby bushes. Police quickly launched a search operation and received intel that the individual had been picked up by a light brown Toyota Fortuner. The vehicle was soon located and stopped.
During the search, the suspect was found in possession of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of R20,000. He was immediately taken into custody and charged with drug dealing and possession.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Daniel Ibeto, appeared before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, for a preliminary hearing. The case has been adjourned until Thursday, 14 August 2025, to allow for legal representation.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, applauded the rapid response by the officers and their effective collaboration with security personnel and the local community.
