Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, have staged a peaceful protest against the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of sidelining them in the running of the state.

The protesters, made up of party leaders, youth members, and women, gathered at the party secretariat and marched through major streets in Ikirun, holding placards with various inscriptions such as “We Deserve a Voice in Governance,” “PDP Members Are Being Ignored,” and “Adeleke, Carry Us Along.”

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Alhaji Rasaq Oyelade, a prominent PDP stakeholder in the area, expressed disappointment that since the party won the 2022 governorship election, many loyal members in Ikirun have been left out of appointments and decision-making processes.

“We worked tirelessly to deliver victory for the PDP. But today, we are not being carried along. It is as if the governor is running Osun State alone. This is not what we fought for,” Oyelade said.

Another protester, Mrs. Sade Lawal, noted that the exclusion has affected the morale of party members at the grassroots. She called on the governor to remember those who stood by the party through thick and thin.

“We’re not asking for too much, but we want to be involved. We want recognition. This government should not forget the people who made it possible,” she added.

The protesters appealed to Governor Adeleke to embrace inclusiveness and ensure that every part of the state, especially loyal PDP members in towns like Ikirun, are fairly represented in appointments and political activities.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the governor’s office regarding the protest.
