Kano Court Remands TikToker ‘Mai Wushirya’ Over Alleged Indecent Video With Dwarf Woman

A magistrate court in Kano has ordered the remand of popular TikTok content creator, Ashiru Idris—widely known as Mai Wushirya—following allegations that he shared an “indecent” video featuring a woman with dwarfism.
Presiding Magistrate Halima Wali ruled on Monday that Idris be held in custody for a period of two weeks, pending further legal proceedings.
His arrest was carried out last week by officials from the Kano State Censorship Board after clips showing him shirtless and engaging in what authorities described as “immoral and degrading behavior” circulated widely on social media.
The Censorship Board claimed the videos violated state regulations prohibiting the creation or distribution of obscene or sexually suggestive content.
Speaking to the press after the hearing, the board’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, confirmed that the court also issued an order summoning the woman who appeared in the video alongside Idris.
“We had previously asked him to help us identify and locate the woman, but he refused to cooperate,” Sulaiman said. “Now that the court has formally ordered her appearance, we believe we’ll be able to track her down.”
He added that initial findings suggest the woman may have fled to Zamfara State, but efforts are underway to locate and bring her back to face trial alongside the influencer.
The case is expected to resume after the two-week remand period expires.
This incident comes amid a broader crackdown by the Kano State government on online content that authorities deem to be in violation of cultural or moral standards. In recent months, several social media personalities, including skit makers and musicians, have faced arrest or disciplinary action over content considered inappropriate under local censorship laws.
