Governor Dapo Abiodun Holds High-Level Meeting With Security Chiefs Amid Rising Tensions

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday convened a high-level security meeting with heads of major security formations in the state, as concerns grow over recent tensions and emerging threats across some communities.
The closed-door session, held at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, brought together top commanders from the police, military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun, and other relevant agencies. The meeting was called to review the security outlook of the state and strengthen coordinated responses to potential risks.
Speaking after the parley, Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that security remains a top priority under his leadership. He said the meeting was necessary to “fine-tune strategies, close operational gaps, and ensure that Ogun remains one of the safest states in the federation.”
The governor noted that while the state has enjoyed relative calm, recent incidents in parts of the Southwest required proactive measures. He assured residents that government and security agencies are working hand-in-hand to prevent any escalation.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, the meeting focused on intelligence-sharing, improved patrols along border communities, curbing cult-related violence, and enhancing rapid response capacity in rural areas. The governor reportedly directed security chiefs to intensify surveillance and maintain visible presence in vulnerable locations.
The security chiefs, in their collective briefing, commended the governor for continuous support through logistics, equipment, and welfare interventions, stating that such backing has helped boost their operational efficiency.
Governor Abiodun urged citizens to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel, and report suspicious activities promptly. He reiterated that sustaining peace and stability requires both government action and community vigilance.
