ADC Tells Peter Obi to Decide as Zoning Issue Isn’t Up for Discussion Yet

Peter Obi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Peter Obi to make a firm decision on whether he wants to join their coalition, emphasizing that the issue of zoning for the 2027 elections is not currently on the agenda.

The statement follows Obi’s comments suggesting that the ADC-led coalition was “faltering” over disagreements about zoning and the rotation of key political positions.

In response, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the coalition had not reached the stage where zoning should be a focus. He stated, “Right now, we are not discussing zoning or where offices should rotate. Nigerians are waiting for us to show how we intend to offer a real alternative. If Obi feels zoning must be settled before he joins, perhaps he should wait until that time.”

Abdullahi encouraged Obi to make a clear choice about joining the coalition. “Our priority is convincing Nigerians that we offer a credible alternative, regardless of the candidate’s origin. We want Obi to be part of building a party that can reset Nigerian politics,” he added.

He also dismissed claims that the coalition was unstable. “It’s unfortunate that words like ‘unstable’ were used. We are stable. In just five months, we’ve established offices in 27 or 28 states without holding a single political office. That’s significant progress. We want Obi to join us in this journey and help build the party,” Abdullahi said.
