Benin Republic: Presidency Confirms President Talon Is Safe as Security Forces Quell Attempted Coup

Government insiders have confirmed that President Patrice Talon remains unharmed and firmly protected, despite claims by a faction of soldiers who briefly announced his removal on state television. Speaking to AFP on Sunday, the presidency dismissed the announcement, describing the perpetrators as “a small group with access only to the TV station,” adding that loyal forces were swiftly restoring order.

According to multiple official and security sources, the attempted takeover has been largely contained. The presidential palace remains firmly under the control of the national army, while public broadcaster @benintvsrtb has been secured and its transmission temporarily halted as part of the response.

Reports indicate that no senior government officials have been detained. While the situation is still unfolding, a significant portion of the military and national guard are said to remain loyal to the state and actively working to maintain stability across Benin.
