Billboard Ban: Osun APC Accuses Adeleke of Oppression, Vows Resistance

– Osun APC Knocks Adeleke
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration of deliberate stifling the opposition by its creation of non-level playing ground for the campaign activities in respect of the next year’s governorship election in the state.
According to the state chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party’s spokesman, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, today, Mr. Adeleke and his cohorts are desperately looking for ways to hold down the hands of the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, in the contest by misusing his power of incumbency.
What could have informed the Draconian and sadistic directive of the Osun State Government under the leadership of Mr. Adeleke to have directed O’ Signage Agency not to approve the erection or pasting of any APC billboard in Osogbo?
It was reliably gathered that the Osun State Government specifically instructed that no APC billboards should be displayed from Akoda to Osogbo City Stadium within a specific period of time between now and the period of the election.
Further investigation on this unlawful, anti-social and undemocratic development also revealed that the state government has ordered O’ Signage Agency to identify the owners of the existing billboards across Osogbo and compensate them for a period of three years per billboard.
What could have prompted the embattled Governor Adeleke government to resort to such an unlawful, unpopular, wicked, unsustainable and cruel approach to politics and politicking if not the fear of his imminent defeat that is staring the fast-fading administration of the hitherto Peoples Democratic Party PDP-led government that has jumped the ship to the ACCORD party?
The earlier Governor Adeleke and his co-travellers come to terms with the fact that their ploy to hold down the hand of our governorship candidate can neither fly nor sit as it is not only bizzaire, it is unlawful, unpopular, undemocratic and would be resisted by the law of the land, the better it would be for them.
We want to implore those who are devising this undemocratic development for Mr. Adeleke to go back to their drawing board as this one has hit the rocks.
Why is Mr. Adeleke afraid to play the games of politics according to the rules if indeed he is popular as he is making some people who can not differentiate between popularity and notoriety to believe?
We want to assure the governor and his kitchen cabinet members that no amount of anti-democratic forces that they are initiating against our governorship candidate would prevent his success at the polls as he already has the blessing and support of the good people of Osun State who are tired of series of missteps and misgovernance attracting negative news to our state almost on daily basis.
We want to point out that this Draconian Osun State Government directive to its O’Signage Agency to prevent our party and candidate from freely using billboards is not in tune with the regulations of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), the body responsible for regulating advertising standards in Nigeria (formerly APCON).
We, as a party, are also putting all the statutory security services in the state like the Police, the Department of State Services(DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) on notice with a view for them to having the knowledge and addressing the issue when the need arises.
