“You Deceived Us” – Rivers PDP Factional Chair Alleges Fubara Misled Party Members

Dr. Nname Ewor, the factional Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of misleading party members and abandoning the PDP during the state’s political crisis.

Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Dr. Ewor said Fubara gave party members false hope that he could wrest control from Minister Nyesom Wike, but instead, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2025.

“Many of us were deceived with false promises,” Ewor said. “We were made to believe the governor would take political control from Wike, but he misled us.”

He also alleged that Fubara boasted President Bola Tinubu would force both Wike and members of the State House of Assembly to support his administration and eventual 2027 reelection. “Instead of promoting peace for smooth governance, the governor claimed the President would make lawmakers and Wike comply with his plans,” he added.

Dr. Ewor urged the governor to make public all details of the peace agreement brokered by President Tinubu before the State of Emergency in Rivers State was lifted in 2025. “The governor’s mandate comes from the people, and his actions affect them. Rivers people deserve to know the full terms of any agreements made in their interest,” he said.

He recalled that tensions between Fubara and the State House of Assembly escalated to the bombing of the Assembly complex, which led to the State of Emergency in March 2025. Ewor said a new, undocumented peace pact was later reached, leaving the public unaware of its terms.

Ewor also criticized Fubara for sending delegates to the PDP National Convention in Ibadan in November 2025 while failing to attend himself. “Asking us to go while he didn’t attend was a double standard. Could this have prompted his sudden defection to APC?” he questioned.

Following the convention, the PDP National Working Committee set up a Caretaker Committee for Rivers State with Ewor as chairman, including senior party members like Prince Uche Secondus, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, Abiye Sekibo, Celestine Omehia, and Senator Lee Maeba.

Ewor added that Wike recently accused Fubara of violating the peace agreement by failing to reinstate or remove certain officials as promised. “The people of Rivers State deserve transparency and accountability,” he said.

Finally, aligning with Minister Wike, Ewor confirmed that his PDP faction would support President Tinubu’s 2027 reelection bid.
