Nigeria Is Safer Than the U.S., Says American Rapper DDG

Popular American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., widely known as DDG, has challenged negative portrayals of Nigeria often promoted by Western media. Currently spending his vacation in Lagos, the artiste said the country is far less dangerous than it is commonly made out to be.

According to DDG, Nigeria does not come close to the level of violence experienced in the United States. He explained that while security issues exist in Nigeria, incidents such as gun violence and gang-related crimes are far more widespread in America.

Speaking in a video shared online, the rapper encouraged foreigners to visit Nigeria and experience the country firsthand instead of relying on misleading narratives. “People say a lot of things about Nigeria, but it’s nowhere near as dangerous as America,” he said, adding that the U.S. feels more unsafe in comparison.

DDG also addressed misconceptions he had been taught before his visit, including claims that Nigerian food is unhealthy and that drinking water is unsafe unless boiled. He noted that these beliefs were inaccurate, praising Nigerian cuisine—especially jollof rice—as highly nutritious.

His comments have sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians applauding him for speaking positively about the country.
