Nigeria Has Lost Its Voice – ADC Blasts Tinubu Over Silence on Venezuela Crisis

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the Nigerian government, accusing President Bola Tinubu’s administration of moral cowardice and international embarrassment following the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by the United States.
ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, released the statement on Monday, condemning Nigeria’s silence more than 48 hours after the US operation. The party described the lack of response as “a sign of fear” and “proof that Nigeria has lost its voice and influence on the global stage.”
The statement also referenced the widely criticized 2024 Venezuelan elections, arguing that governments built on fraud and repression cannot rely on international doctrines of sovereignty for protection.
“Make no mistake,” the statement read, “Nigeria’s inaction is not neutrality. It reflects a government lacking both integrity and confidence.”
ADC further warned that the Venezuelan situation should serve as a lesson to all leaders who manipulate elections and suppress citizens’ rights, emphasizing that accountability is inevitable.
The party accused the Tinubu administration of failing to uphold principled positions on international issues, suggesting that continued silence risks undermining Nigeria’s credibility as Africa’s largest democracy.
“Democracy must be more than just elections and ballots,” the statement concluded. “Governments that prioritize their survival over the will of the people will find themselves increasingly exposed before the world.”
