Tambuwal Stresses Inclusive Leadership as Key to Nigeria’s Growth

Tambuwal Amina
Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has emphasized that deliberate, inclusive, and fair leadership is essential for Nigeria’s progress. Speaking on the theme of his 60th birthday colloquium, “Leadership, Service and Statesmanship,” Tambuwal highlighted his long-held belief that effective governance requires broad representation across all sectors of society.
Reflecting on his tenure as governor, he explained that this philosophy guided many of his policy decisions, especially efforts to promote the active participation of women and youths in government. During his administration, three women were appointed to head critical ministries, breaking with the tradition of limiting female appointments to the Ministry of Women Affairs. At the local government level, each council had at least three female councillors, with Tambuwal Local Government Area alone accounting for five, bringing the total female representation in the state to 71.
Tambuwal also noted that his government appointed seven female Permanent Secretaries and nine female Directors-General, in addition to numerous women serving on boards and as Special Advisers and Assistants. He reiterated that inclusive governance is not only a matter of fairness but a vital ingredient for nation-building and sustainable development. Posting on X, Tambuwal wrote: “Inclusiveness must be deliberate in leadership. During my tenure, we ensured women and youths had meaningful roles in government. I remain convinced that broad-based representation is essential for sustainable national growth.”
