Tinubu Orders Immediate Rescue of Ngoshe Abductees, Calls for Stronger Security Response After Deadly Terror Attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security forces to urgently rescue residents abducted during a deadly terrorist raid on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The directive followed a violent assault reportedly carried out by suspected insurgents linked to Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province, which resulted in multiple deaths and the abduction of several civilians.

Reacting to the incident, President Tinubu instructed the nation’s armed forces and other security agencies to intensify operations aimed at rescuing those taken hostage and restoring safety in the affected communities.

The President also ordered security commanders to strengthen protective measures for civilians across the country and reinforce defenses around military installations in the North-East, where insurgent activity remains a significant concern.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Tinubu described the attack as a cruel assault on innocent citizens and extended his condolences to families who lost loved ones during the violence.

Among the casualties were both civilians and members of the military. Some of the fatalities reportedly occurred during an aerial operation by the Nigerian Air Force targeting fleeing insurgents.

The President prayed for the victims and offered sympathy to the bereaved families, as well as to the government and people of Borno State.

Despite the losses recorded, the President praised the swift response of troops on the ground. According to initial reports, security forces quickly engaged the attackers, killing several insurgents and forcing others to retreat from the area.

He encouraged security agencies to maintain the momentum in their operations against insurgent groups operating in the region.

Security sources indicated that the assault took place on Wednesday evening shortly after Muslims concluded their daily fast.

The attackers reportedly began by targeting a military base belonging to a task force unit under the Nigerian Army before moving into nearby civilian settlements.

During the raid, gunmen also invaded a camp housing internally displaced persons (IDPs), killing several individuals, including soldiers, a prominent religious leader, and respected community elders.

Witness accounts suggest that more than 100 women and children were abducted by the insurgents before they fled the area.

Security forces have since launched operations aimed at tracking the attackers and securing the safe return of those taken hostage.

President Tinubu urged residents of Borno State and Nigerians across the country not to give in to fear, assuring citizens that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and restoring stability in the region.

He emphasized that the fight against terrorism requires resilience from both the security forces and the public, noting that the government remains determined to defeat insurgency and safeguard communities nationwide.
