Tinubu Approves Pay Raise for Nigerian Troops in Major Welfare Boost for Armed Forces

President Bola Tinubu has authorised an increase in salaries and allowances for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, a move aimed at improving the welfare of service members and strengthening the country’s security operations.
The development was disclosed during an interfaith breaking of fast gathering with members of the armed forces at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The event brought together military officers and senior government officials to mark the ongoing fasting period while recognising the contributions of troops to national security.
At the gathering, the Chief of Defence Staff (Nigeria), represented by the Chief of Army Staff (Nigeria), expressed appreciation to the president for approving the upward review of military salaries and allowances. The adjustments also cover enhanced benefits for personnel of the Brigade of Guards, the elite unit responsible for protecting the president and key national assets.
According to the military leadership, the new welfare package goes beyond pay adjustments. It also includes plans to improve accommodation for personnel, expand the procurement of modern equipment, and strengthen logistical support for troops deployed across various operations.
The defence leadership said the measures are expected to raise morale among soldiers who continue to confront security threats in different parts of the country, including terrorism, banditry, and other forms of armed violence.
Addressing the service members, Tinubu commended the armed forces for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting the nation. He acknowledged that many troops spend extended periods away from their families while carrying out demanding operations in challenging environments.
The president assured the military that his administration remains committed to investing in modern defence capabilities, including improved intelligence systems, operational logistics, and advanced equipment to support ongoing security operations.
Tinubu also noted that recent military efforts have contributed to weakening terrorist and criminal groups in several regions of the country. He urged troops to remain steadfast in their mission to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protect citizens.
In his remarks, the president thanked Nigerians for their patience amid ongoing economic reforms, stating that the collective sacrifices of citizens and security personnel are essential to achieving long-term national stability and development.
He also extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State following a recent terrorist attack in the state, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in affected communities.
