Wike Warns PDP Rival Camp: ‘We’re Prepared for Supreme Court Battle’ After Appeal Court Victory

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said his faction within the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) is fully prepared for further legal confrontation if the opposing group led by Taminu Turaki decides to challenge recent court rulings at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Wike made the remark on Monday following a series of legal victories at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, where nine appeals filed by the rival faction were dismissed. The faction is believed to be aligned with Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State.
The appellate court also affirmed an earlier decision by the Federal High Court of Nigeria, delivered on October 31, 2025, which restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcome of the PDP’s 2025 National Convention.
Reacting to the judgment, Wike described the ruling as an opportunity for reconciliation within the party, urging members to consider dialogue rather than extending the dispute through further litigation.
According to him, pursuing the matter to the Supreme Court could deepen divisions within the party, though he maintained that his camp is prepared to defend its position if necessary.
He also disclosed that the court imposed financial penalties on the appellants, awarding costs of ₦2 million for each of the nine dismissed appeals, bringing the total to ₦18 million.
The latest legal developments highlight the ongoing internal struggle within the PDP, as rival factions continue to battle for influence and legitimacy within one of Nigeria’s major opposition parties.
