Atiku’s Son Joins ADC, Aligns With Father Ahead of 2027 Elections

Adamu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a clear alignment with his father’s 2027 presidential ambitions.
Adamu, who previously served as a commissioner in Adamawa State, officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday before completing his online registration with the ADC, according to sources cited by The Nation Newspaper.
Within hours of joining the new party, Adamu took to X (formerly Twitter) to encourage his supporters to follow suit. “I call on all my supporters and well-wishers to join me by registering with the ADC as we work together to advance the cause of good governance and national development,” he tweeted.
Political analysts told The Guardian Nigeria that the move underscores the strategic consolidation of the Atiku political network within the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections. Observers note that the younger Abubakar’s registration not only strengthens his father’s base but also signals a generational involvement in national politics.
The development is seen as part of broader preparations by the Atiku camp to establish a solid party structure that can rival other major parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP, which has been weakened by internal crises in recent months, according to reports by The Punch.
With the 2027 elections approaching, Adamu Abubakar’s shift to the ADC is expected to generate momentum for the party, especially among young voters and politically active supporters of the Abubakar family.
