Federal Fire Service Warns Gombe Residents Ahead of Eid-El-Fitr, Lists Safety Precautions

As Muslims across Gombe State prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, the Federal Fire Service has issued a comprehensive safety advisory urging residents to observe caution during the festive period.

In a statement released on Thursday, the State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, DCF Suleiman Suleiman, congratulated faithful on completing Ramadan while stressing the importance of proactive safety measures to prevent fire incidents and other avoidable emergencies. According to him, festive periods often see a spike in domestic and commercial accidents due to increased activity.

“Experience shows that celebrations bring higher risks of fire outbreaks. We call on everyone to exercise caution, particularly when handling gas cylinders, electrical appliances, and generators,” Suleiman said. He reminded residents never to leave cooking unattended, avoid overloading power outlets, and operate generators in ventilated outdoor areas.

The Controller also highlighted the dangers of storing flammable substances improperly and urged vigilance in supervising children during family gatherings. “Adequate ventilation and keeping access routes clear for emergency responders are crucial,” he added.

Suleiman further warned about heat-related risks given the current weather conditions. He advised residents to stay hydrated, minimize prolonged exposure to the sun, and monitor for early signs of heat exhaustion or illness. Proper fuel handling, especially at filling stations or in homes, was also emphasized.

On emergency response, the Federal Fire Service assured Gombe residents of its readiness to act promptly. “Timely reporting is vital in preventing disasters.
