Tension Rises as Explosions Rock Jerusalem Following Iran Missile Alerts

Residents of Jerusalem were jolted by loud explosions and blaring air raid sirens on Sunday after Israel’s military warned of incoming missiles launched from Iran, escalating tensions in the already volatile region.

According to reports monitored by AFP and cited by The Guardian, the Israeli military confirmed that it had detected missile launches targeting its territory, prompting emergency alerts across multiple locations.

Emergency responders, including Israel’s Magen David Adom, said there were no immediate reports of casualties following the initial alerts. However, security forces were deployed to assess possible impact points, particularly in central Israel.

Local media footage showed minor structural damage near a roadway in Holon, close to Tel Aviv, as authorities moved swiftly to secure affected areas. Daily Times reports that military personnel were dispatched to investigate the sites and evaluate the extent of the damage.

The latest development follows a series of missile strikes a day earlier, when Iranian projectiles hit southern Israeli towns including Dimona and Arad. The attacks caused significant destruction to residential buildings and left several people injured. Medical officials at Soroka Medical Centre confirmed that over 170 individuals were treated, with a number of cases described as severe.

Iranian state media indicated that the strike on Dimona, a location associated with Israel’s nuclear infrastructure, was carried out in retaliation for an earlier attack on Iran’s Natanz facility.

Meanwhile, Israeli defence authorities have launched an internal review into how some of the missiles evaded interception systems, raising fresh concerns about the effectiveness of existing air defence mechanisms, according to The Nation.

As tensions continue to mount, analysts warn that the cycle of retaliation between both sides could further destabilize the region if diplomatic efforts fail to contain the situation.
