APC Taunts PDP Over Leadership Crisis, Jabs Makinde as ‘One-Man Governors’ Forum’ Looms

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), taking aim at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, over what it described as a deepening leadership crisis within the opposition ranks.

In a statement released on Saturday, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo suggested that recent developments within the PDP point to a weakening structure, with Makinde allegedly set to assume a dominant role in a diminished Governors’ Forum. According to The Nation, the APC described the situation as symbolic of the party’s internal struggles.

Oladejo argued that a wave of defections by PDP governors has significantly reduced the party’s influence, leaving its leadership structure fragile. “What we are witnessing is a steady erosion of cohesion within the PDP, raising serious questions about its readiness to manage a nation as complex as Nigeria,” he said, as reported by Daily Times.

The APC further claimed that the situation reflects broader issues within the opposition party, including what it described as a lack of ideological clarity and recurring internal disagreements. It maintained that the PDP’s inability to maintain unity among its key figures undermines its credibility as a viable alternative.

“A political platform that struggles to retain its own leadership and fails to present a clear direction cannot convincingly position itself for national governance,” Oladejo added, according to The Guardian Nigeria.

Despite its criticism, the APC acknowledged the importance of a strong opposition in a democratic system, warning that prolonged instability within rival parties could affect political balance. The party urged opposition groups to adopt a more structured and disciplined approach, drawing comparisons with what it described as its own strategic evolution while in opposition.

The Lagos APC reaffirmed its focus on governance and institutional strengthening, calling on Nigerians to support parties it said demonstrate unity, stability, and a clear vision for leadership.

Observers say the latest remarks underscore intensifying political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 general elections, with both major parties seeking to shape public perception amid shifting alliances.
