Tragedy on Ijebu-Ode–Ore Expressway: Four Killed in Late-Night Crash

In Ogun State, Nigeria, Four people have been confirmed dead following a road accident late Monday night on the Ijebu-Ode–Ore expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported. The crash involved a white Toyota Hiace bus and a blue MAN Diesel truck owned by construction company Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, according to the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command.
The collision occurred at around 11:16 p.m. at the Ijebu-Imushin axis. All four passengers of the bus Which includes two men and two women died instantly. The FRSC stated that preliminary investigations indicate excessive speeding as the main cause.
The truck was reportedly being towed at the time and became a hazard after the towing chain snapped, leaving it stranded on the road. The FRSC confirmed that the speeding Hiace bus rammed into the stationary truck, and the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene immediately.
Emergency responders reached the accident site within eight minutes and evacuated the victims to the State Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu-Ode. The Nigeria Police Force, Imushin Division, has taken control of the vehicles as investigations continue, Daily Trust reports.
Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, called on motorists to adhere strictly to speed limitsand ensure that towing equipment is in proper working condition, warning that compliance with road safety regulations is crucial to preventing further tragedies.
According to The Nation Newspaper, similar warnings have been issued following multiple accidents on busy Ogun highways, including the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode road, highlighting ongoing challenges in road safety enforcement and infrastructure maintenance.
