ADC Unveils Nationwide Congress Schedule, Sets Stage for Crucial April Convention

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has mapped out an extensive timetable for its nationwide congresses, signaling a major organisational push ahead of its national convention slated for mid-April.

The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), at a meeting in Abuja, approved the schedule, which will kick off with polling unit and ward congresses on April 7. This will be followed by local government congresses on April 9 and state congresses on April 11, culminating in a national convention on April 14.

Announcing the decisions after the meeting, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the gathering as productive and well-attended, noting that all critical stakeholders were present. As reported by Daily Trust, he emphasised that the congress process would be inclusive, transparent, and open to all qualified members.

Abdullahi disclosed that the NEC also ratified key documents, including reports from the Policy and Manifesto Committee and the Constitutional Review Committee. These, he said, would be presented for formal adoption at the convention, forming the backbone of the party’s future direction.

He clarified that, contrary to expectations in some quarters, the upcoming convention would not involve the election of new party leaders. Instead, it will serve as a platform to endorse decisions already taken by the NEC and the National Working Committee (NWC). According to coverage by The Nation, internal elections will take place during the staged congresses at various levels rather than at the convention itself.

The ADC further confirmed that guidelines for the congresses have already been distributed nationwide, alongside nomination forms, to ensure broad participation across its structures.

INEC representatives were also present at the NEC meeting, a move party officials say reinforces the credibility and transparency of the process.

In his remarks, National Chairman David Mark urged members to prioritise unity and discipline as the party navigates a critical phase in its development. He stressed the need for collective leadership and stronger grassroots engagement to position the ADC as a viable national alternative.

“Our goal is to rebuild and present a platform that speaks to Nigerians across all divides,” he said, a statement echoed in reports by The Guardian, which highlighted the party’s growing efforts to expand its national appeal.

With the congress timeline now set, the ADC appears to be consolidating its internal structure while preparing for broader political contests ahead.
