APC Raises Alarm Over Osun Govt Plot to Procure N2bn Weapons for Thugs Ahead of Governorship Poll

• Seeks President, NSA, Service Chiefs’ Intervention
The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has alerted the public regarding an alleged clandestine and dangerous plan by the Osun State Government to procure arms and ammunition worth about N2 billion for the political thugs recruited for the purpose of the August 15 governorship poll in the state, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Oluwatosin Ajayi, to immediately launch a comprehensive investigation into disturbing intelligence reports.
The allegations implicate Governor Ademola Adeleke, his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, and the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Mr Adekunle Omoyele.
According to intelligence available to the Council, about N500 million has allegedly been released as part of the funds earmarked for the proposed procurement, using the guise of the Amotekun for the distribution of the weapons.
The APC has complained copiously in the past of how the PDP/Accord party thugs were secretly recruited into the Amotekun by the controversial retired police officer and former Chief Security Officer to Governor Adeleke, Mr Adekunle Omoyele who, alongside many of the operatives of the Amotekun corps, is currently facing murder and terrorism charges in a federal high court Abuja for invading and killing innocent citizens at Akinlalu, a community in Ife North Local Government Area of the state last October.
Our concern is heightened by the recent unpalatable experience of APC where no fewer than 30 members of our party were gruesomely murdered by thugs linked to Governor Adeleke and his party, PDP/Accord, en route to the 2022 governorship and 2023 presidential/national assembly elections.
Our concern is further heightened by the accusation that suspected criminals on the Wanted-list of the Police, like Lekan Emir Ajagungbade and Nurudeen Alowonle, are being sheltered in the Government House, Okefia, by officials of the state government.
The Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council is deeply worried that any attempt to acquire arms and ammunition for criminals and political thugs is capable of compromising the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun State.
Democracy is sustained through persuasion, performance and popular support—not through intimidation, fear or the deployment of force.
Governor Ademola Adeleke should seek re-election on the basis of his record in office and the confidence of the electorate, not through backdoor or violence.
